DEPARTMENT OF ROMANCE LANGUAGES
SCHOLARSHIPS
2008-2009
The Department of Romance Languages announces scholarships available for study in summer 2008 and/or the academic year 2008/2009.
Françoise Calin Scholarship - One $500 scholarship for an undergraduate student to continue studies in French.
Priority will be given to applicants planning to study abroad.
Limited to juniors and seniors who are majors or minors in the Romance Languages department, with consideration given to those with preparation in French.
Emmanuel Hatzantonis Scholarship - Two $500 scholarships to carry out Italian studies in Italy with the University’s foreign studies programs.
Limited to majors or minors in the Romance Languages department, with consideration given to those with preparation in Italian.
Helen Fe Jones Scholarship - One $500 scholarship for undergraduates and one $500 scholarship for graduate students to study Spanish in a Spanish-speaking country.
Limited to juniors, seniors, and graduate students who are majors or minors in the Romance Languages department, with consideration given to those with preparation in Spanish.
Perry J. Powers Scholarship – One or two $500 scholarships for study in the Romance Languages department.
Limited to undergraduate majors and minors in the Romance Languages department.
Perugia Summer Program Scholarships – Two scholarships for study on the 2008 Summer Program (approximately 650 Euros each), to be received in Perugia.
In the absence of applicants who meet the precise requirements for the Perugia Scholarships, the members of the Italian faculty in the Department may choose to consider applicants with equivalent qualifications for fulfilling the objectives of the program.
Stickels Scholarship – Three or four $1000 scholarships to study in a Spanish-speaking country.
Limited to graduate students of Romance Languages with a concentration in Spanish, expressing an intention to become language teachers. In the absence of graduate student applicants, undergraduates intending to become language teachers will be considered.
James T. Wetzel Scholarship – One or two $1000 scholarships.
Limited to graduate students in Romance Languages, to support specific research projects.
Graduate School Research Award – One $1000 scholarship.
Limited to Romance Languages graduate students for expenses directly related to carrying out professional development activities and/or research or creative projects or special training.
Beall Graduate Scholarship – Four $1000 scholarships.
Limited to Romance Languages graduate students for expenses directly related to carrying out professional development activities and/or research or creative projects or special training. (Scholarship excludes travel expenses.)
Any scholarship award may have an impact on financial aid. Please check with the Financial Aid Office prior to accepting scholarships.
Applications will be available Winter term 2008 at the
Romance Languages Office, 102 Friendly Hall.
Completed applications are due in the Romance Languages Office by
Friday, March 14, 2008
MAJORS AND MINORS MUST BE DECLARED BY DECEMBER 1, 2007 TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THOSE SCHOLARSHIPS REQUIRING MAJOR OR MINOR STATUS.
